About The Art-Strings Ensemble
The Art- Strings Ensemble was founded in 1990. Their artistic portfolio includes a number of concert tours in USA, England, France, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Greece. They are recipient of a grant for extraordinary achievements from the “Open Society” Foundation.
The Art-Strings Ensemble's concert activities include chamber music concert series, single concerts, recordings and broadcasts for WNYC - New York Public Radio (website) Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (website) and Bulgarian National Radio and Television (website) The ensemble explores both the standard classic repertoire and contemporary music. They collaborate with other internationally renowned artists, extending the size of their group. Since November 2002 The Art-Strings Ensembles' founding members known as The Forte String Quartet are Quartet -in- Residence at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (website) The members of The Art-Strings are proud of their community work and educational programs. They have developed series of Educational Concerts for the public schools. The concerts, which are performed on a regular basis in the tri-state area, are very well received by students and teachers. Another project of The Art-Strings is the musical “Alex in the Stringland”- an experimental fusion of theater, live chamber music, demonstrations and lots of interaction with the audience. The Art-Strings Ensemble further engagements include recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Donnell Library, Royal Players Virtuosi Concert Series, Tenri Cultural Institute and Great Hall, and Manhattan Virtuosi Concert Series. Alexander Abayev, violinist and the leader of Art-Strings Ensembles is a native of Ukraine and a graduate of the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev. He is a winner of the Radio Record International Competition Concertino Prague, the Vox Populi Special Prize at the First International Music Festival of Regina and Vladimir Gorowitz, the Seventh Pierre Lantier International Competition in Paris, France, and the Eleventh International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy. Mr. Abayev has appeared in the solo and chamber music performances at Weil Recital Hall, Merkin Hall in New York, Boston's Seully Hall, and the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in Arizona, among other venues. He participates in numerous music festivals, including Hunter Festival, the Arcadia Festival in Maine and the Orlando Festival in The Netherlands. Mr. Abayev plays as a Concertmaster with the Westchester Chamber Orchestra (website) and a faculty member at Northern Westchester Center for the Arts (website). He recently joined the faculty of Adelphi University (website) as a Professor of Violin.
