Who are we: The Northern Westchester Music Teachers Alliance is made up of former music teachers from the NWCA, now teaching at Soundview Prep School. We offer a high level of music instructions at an affordable price.

What do we teach: We teach private voice, piano, violin, viola and guitar.

Who are the faculty:

Alexander Abayev ~ violin & viola. Mr. Alexander Abayev's concert venues include solo appearances as well as chamber music recitals on the stages of various concert halls in New York City, Boston and Washington D.C. These include Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Seully Hall, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and many others. He participates in numerous music festivals in the US and overseas - "Mountain Top" Piano and Strings Festival presented by Windham Chamber Music Festival, NY; "Arcadia Festival" in Maine; "Vladimir and Regina Horowitz" International Chamber Music Festival (Kiev, Ukraine); "Orlando Festival"- International Chamber Music Festival (the Netherlands)
He has studied and collaborated with world-renowned artists such as Earl Carlyss (Julliard String Quartet), Daniel Phillips (Orion String Quartet), Dmitri Shebalin and Valentin Berlinsky (Borodin String Quartet) and Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet. As a member of the Forte String Quartet, Mr. Abayev was featured by Dennis Rooney in the February 2002, April 2005 and February 2006 issues of The STRAD Magazine and performed live on New York City's WNYC 93.9 radio station hosting by John Schaefer in May 2002. He is a winner of the Radio Record International Competition Concertino Prague, Vox Populi Special Prize at the First Music Festival of Regina and Vladimir Horowitz, The 7th Pierre Lantier International Competition in Paris, France and The 11th International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy. Native of Ukraine,. Alexander has moved to the US in 1997. He holds M.A. and Doctorate Degrees with honor from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev, Ukraine. Mr. Abayev is a Professor of Violin at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. He is also Concertmaster of Westchester Chamber Orchestra and Bachanalia Soloists. e-mail

Maryna Rogozhyna ~ piano. She holds a Doctoral Degree from renowned National Academy of Music of Ukraine where she has been teaching before departure to US in 1998.At the age of 8 she won Bach Competition. When she was 15, Mrs. Rogozhyna received the first prize at the National College Student Competition in Ukraine. In 1991 Maryna won All Union Piano Competition in Samara, Russia. Mrs. Rogozhyna extensively performs solo and chamber music recitals in Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, Belgium and The Netherlands. Mrs. Rogozhyna’s concert engagements in the US include recitals at Weill Recital Hall, LeFrak Concert Hall, Donnel Library, Tenri Cultural Institute, Hunter Music Festival and Manhattan Virtuosi Concert Series. She is a faculty member at Mamaroneck School of Music. e-mail

Jennifer Eyges ~ voice. Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, B.M. Manhattan School of Music, M.A. Columbia University, Post Graduate, Jeunesse Musicale in Montreal, and American Institute of Musical Studies, Graz, Austria. Peter Tarsio ~ piano. Manhattan School of Music, studied with renowned pianist R. Goldsand, M.A. from Manhattaville College, studied with A. LaMagra, Dr. Frank Sasloe and E. Magzainer. Educational Series

The Art-Strings Quartet had just celebrated its 15th anniversary. Frequent performers at Carnegie Hall and other prestigious NY stages, they are also devoted to educational and community work.

Our Educational Concert Series consist of thematic music programs designed to entertain and educate at the same time. The concerts combine listening to music with interesting lectures. The shows include lots of interaction with the audience. The series consist of three concerts to be performed at one school within a year. Each concert’s duration is 45 min.

The first concert introduces the instruments from the string family. After each member of the quartet demonstrates his instrument, the students will be guided to establish a connection between size and sound (small size-high sound/ big size-low sound). Before performing some music pieces the students will be asked to follow the character of each music piece in order to describe it, using words such as fast/slow, loud/soft. At the end of the show the quartet will answer the questions of those little curious minds.
The second concert will focus on the basic music elements: rhythm and melody. The quartet will play three short music examples and the students will be guided (the heartbeat of the piece) and its character. Before performing some music pieces the students will be asked to follow the character of each music piece in order to describe its rhythm, using words such as walking, dancing, marching, dreaming. At the end of the show, questions will be answered as usual.
The third concert will define the meaning of “style", it introduces the instruments from the string family. The quartet will play three short music examples of Baroque, Classic and Romantic style. The students will be guided to establish a difference between the styles and then connect each style with a composer’s name: Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky. Before performing some music pieces the students will be asked to follow the character of each music piece in order to describe it, and guess about the style. At the end of this one we normally get loads of questions.
There is a one page brochure supporting each program. The brochure contains summed up information from the lecture. It may be given to the students in advance for better response during the lecture.
